Beginning in January 2022 Grit City Wellness now offers a variety of 5-8 week yoga and fitness class series that supports all levels. Series change quarterly. Take a look at our lineup for Winter 2022! (Check back regularly for updates)

Pilates Sculpt: 5 Week Series

Classes: Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am-11:15 am

This low-impact high aerobic workout is one of the best ways to elevate your heart rate and increase caloric burn. This style of exercise combines a cardio routine and weights to build stamina and strength. Along with traditional Pilates moves to improve flexibility, core strength and posture. This series is designed for all fitness levels. Within this small group, we will aim to support one another to reach our personal set goals!

Yoga for Hikers: 4 Week Series

  • Start Date: Tuesday, May 10th, 2022
  • Classes Meet: Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00pm

Strengthen, stabilize, increase stamina and restore the body for the best hiking season yet. Hiking season is just around the corner and it is the perfect time to get back in the groove. Check in with your knees and ankles as we strengthen their ability to adjust, stabilize, and flex on the uneven ground. Increase your stamina for the tougher steeper hikes and finish out the series with a restorative class that teaches you skills to beat the stiffness that inevitably comes after the hard hike and commute home.

Prepare your body for the best season yet. This series is also great for trail runners, walkers, street runners, and backpackers.

What to expect:

  • 4 different yoga classes specifically target 4 areas of hiking: strengthening, stability, stamina, and restoring
  • The confidence to hit the next trail knowing your body is prepped and ready.
  • The knowledge of movements that the body needs to stay healthy during the hiking season in the PNW.

gentle yoga: 5 Week Series

Join us for a 5-week gentle yoga series to restore ease, suppleness, and connection within our bodies. This series will focus on aligned and balanced movement, gentle strengthening, breathing practices, and mindfulness. These classes are designed to support longevity and for those recovering from an injury or dealing with chronic pain. You'll leave this series with tools to build your own regular yoga practice and a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection.

8 Limbs of yoga: 8 Week Series

The 8 limbs of yoga are the foundational principles of yogic philosophy. They are guidelines for living a meaningful and purpose-filled life while helping you see the bigger picture internally and in your external world. Join Skye on a journey through the 8-limbed path of yoga. Each class will involve a yin/yang fusion practice with EFT (emotional freedom techniques),  breathing exercises, meditation, and journaling to delve into the fundamental concepts of yoga.

FREE Community Yoga at Waterfront market

Join us every Tuesday at noon for community yoga at the Waterfront Market at Ruston! Bring your mat down to the market for a great stretch from 12pm-1pm. All levels of experience are welcomed. 

This free event is a great way to meet others in the community and add some movement into your week. Special thanks to Waterfront Market at Ruston for helping us bring wellness to the Tacoma community!

About the space holder:

Known for her deep belly laughter, Michelle Lavonne Kucera-Jewell, brings together nearly 25 years of experience working within for-profit and non-profit organizations, from guiding wilderness trips to facilitating corporate team building. After transitioning out of her role working in leadership development for Apple she found a passion and desire to commit fully to holding sacred space for her community. 

Her desire as an RYT 500, Chi Nei Tsang & Cacao Practitioner is to help people know that they are worthy of love, not because of their doing; simply because of their being. Michelle utilizes skills developed through her Masters's Degree in Cultural Studies along with her certifications and training as an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist through the Himalayan Institute, Laughter Yoga Leader, Yoga Behind Bars, and Reiki Practitioner. She is humbled by the opportunity to learn from and co-create healing, transformational space in every sacred session.

In an ideal world, every yoga class would provide one-on-one guidance to help you unlock the potential of each technique. Unfortunately, that's just not possible. Private instruction can help you get more out of your yoga practice and make group classes more enjoyable.

  • Initial Yoga Assessment* - $30
